Description
The Department of Asian Studies at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Tamil language, beginning Fall semester 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching three courses per semester, including Tamil at the elementary and intermediate levels, plus either an advanced course in Tamil or another course in Asian Studies or other South Asian language. Preference will be given to candidates who are qualified to teach thematic courses in Asian Studies (specialization open) or a second South Asian language, preferably Kannada or Telugu. Located at the flagship campus of The University of Texas System, our department offers a congenial and exciting context for teaching and research in the languages and cultures of South Asia. In addition to working closely with students in our department, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to participate fully in the rich intellectual life of The University of Texas at Austin.
Qualifications
A Master’s degree or higher in Tamil language or a closely related field and native or near native proficiency in both Tamil and English required. Preference will be given to candidates qualified to teach thematic courses in Asian Studies (specialization open) or a second South Asian language, preferably Kannada or Telugu. Preferred qualifications include teaching experience and demonstrated ability to teach a variety of levels.
