South Asian Language Teachers Association

The South Asian Language Teachers Association (SALTA) is a non-profit, professional organization registered in the state of Tennessee. Its mission is to advance and improve the study and teaching of South Asian languages and cultures, promote research in linguistics and literatures, support educators, and foster professional collaboration.

SALTA is dedicated to:

  • Advancing the Study of South Asian Languages – Encouraging research, innovative teaching methodologies, and best practices for languages such as Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, and Punjabi.
  • Supporting Language Educators – Providing professional development, networking opportunities, and valuable resources for teachers.
  • Developing Curriculum & Resources – Creating and sharing instructional materials, assessments, and innovative teaching tools.
  • Advocating for Language Education – Raising awareness about the importance of South Asian language instruction in schools, community colleges, and universities.
  • Fostering Multilingualism & Cultural Understanding – Promoting language learning to enhance cross-cultural communication and appreciation.

SALTA also works to further the common interests of educators in this field and facilitate communication and professional cooperation among its members.
