WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’s Middle East and South Asia Studies Program seeks applications for a one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Hindi-Urdu, beginning July 1, 2023. We seek candidates who have a commitment to excellence in teaching. Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or ABD status) in Hindi-Urdu linguistics, literature, second-language pedagogy, or a related area. We seek a candidate with native or near-native fluency in Hindi-Urdu as well as English, and experience in teaching Hindi-Urdu language courses of all levels as well as for specific purposes at the university level. Proficiency in the Devanagari script is required and additional proficiency in Nastaliq is preferred. The candidate will be expected to teach six courses per year or the equivalent. Of those courses, the candidate will have the opportunity to teach at least one in English on a topic related to South Asian literature, film, and culture.
